Philanthropy Community Outreach award given for Speedway SuperAmerica fundraising

SALT LAKE CITY (July 28, 2008) — Children’s Miracle Network announced today that one of its largest supporters, Speedway SuperAmerica (SSA), has received the Philanthropy and Community Outreach Project of The Year award for 2007 from its parent company, Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO), in recognition of SSA’s outstanding philanthropic support for Children’s Miracle Network. The award recognizes Children’s Miracle Network, an international non-profit organization that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals, because of the unique partnership and fundraising programs it has developed with SSA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon.

“Even in a downturn economy, Speedway SuperAmerica has embraced the idea of giving back,” said Jim Hall, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network. “They have shown continual fundraising support for our 170 associated children’s hospitals despite the economic crunch. With their help, we are able to touch the lives of millions of sick and injured children each year.”

SSA’s annual Children’s Miracle Network campaign was determined to be the winning Philanthropy/Community Outreach Project of the Year for 2007 out of 26 project nominations across Marathon Oil Corporation worldwide. The award is a part of Marathon’s annual Living Our Values Global Awards and Recognition Program. Developed in 2005, Marathon’s Living Our Values Global Awards and Recognition Program recognizes teams, departments and organizations across the entire company that have put Marathon’s corporate values into action both in the workplace, the marketplace and in the communities and cultures where Marathon operates around the world.

A sponsor of Children’s Miracle Network since 1992, SSA has raised nearly $24 million for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. Speedway SuperAmerica raises these funds through turnkey programs provided by Children’s Miracle Network such as canister campaigns, grassroots fundraising activities, employee payroll deduction programs and an annual corporate golf tournament. As SSA president Tony Kenney stated, “Our Children’s Miracle Network campaign speaks to the commitment and dedication of all of our employees to the communities that we are honored to serve.”

Marathon continues to demonstrate that “Living Our Values” is its long-established commitment. Values such as corporate citizenship led Marathon to identify Children’s Miracle Network, and sponsors such as Speedway SuperAmerica, as leaders in demonstrating such values.

Speedway SuperAmerica operates almost 1,600 stores in nine states throughout the Midwest and is the largest contributor to Children’s Miracle Network in the convenience store industry.
